Artful Apprentice
The Art-Full Apprentice is a dynamic service and artistic exchange program which enables teens to step outside their comfort zones and participate in meaningful interaction with adult professionals who will provide unique service experiences of specific art disciplines. It is divided into three segments and is designed for High School teens ages 14-18.
A benefit of the Art-Full Apprentice is that participants have dedicated access to professionals in the arts and a rare chance to be immersed in the inner-workings of an art centered company or organization. With meaningful interaction with a caring adult and positive influence of peers, this interesting Youth Development program can help teens make choices that keep them on a positive track, incorporate productive activities into their lives, and become leaders in their communities. Arts-centered service learning builds on the YMCA's rich tradition of engaging young people in service. Including the initial orientation, the program format walks students through a three-step process of preparation through leadership development and job readiness, (i.e. punctuality, team work, business/art etiquette, etc) mentoring through art skills development, and finally implementing community impact through service learning. The Art-Full Apprentice can aid in giving young people the tools they need to become active members of their community.
Contact CarolAnn Briggs at 253-597-6444 if you are interested in participating.
