PROGRAMS and ACCESS

Armed Services
The Armed Services, YMCA and Department of Defense Outreach Initiative offers free or discounted YMCA memberships to eligible military families and personnel.

City of Gig Harbor
The City of Gig Harbor contributed to building the Gig Harbor YMCA aquatics facility in the amount of $250,000.  YMCA also collaborates with the City to facilitate the Gig Harbor Street Scramble, which is a FREE family fun event that occurs every year in May to kick off the Healthy Harbor program.

Exercise & Thrive Program

Peninsula School District
The Gig Harbor YMCA works closely with the Peninsula School District and have responded to specific needs in the district within the last two years.
Our vision, mission and involvement with ACHIEVE Initiative drives us toward continuing to look for ways we can encourage and facilitate opportunities for youth to be physically active.

Wednesday Morning Collaboration
Beginning in 2008, the Gig Harbor YMCA began providing FREE physical activity to 400 elementary aged children through the 8 PSD elementary schools on Wednesday mornings.

6th and 7th Grade Program
This year began our 6th and 7th Grade Program that provides the opportunity for middle school students to participate in 45 minutes of physical activity twice a week a the Gig Harbor YMCA.

YMCA Child Care before and after school serves 195 students at all 8 PSD elementary schools.

Kindergarten Enrichment Program is a paid program the YMCA offered to offer an option on Fridays for parents after the district consolidated Kindergarten to Monday-Thursdays.

MultiCare Health Systems
Has collaborated with the YMCA of Pierce & Kitsap Counties since 2005.  MultiCare offers services focused on prevention and well-being through a MultiCare clinic located on the second floor of the Gig Harbor YMCA.  This collaboration also includes the location of the YMCA Women’s Center within the Pt Fosdick MultiCare Medical Park.

PenMet Parks
Thanks to PenMet Parks’ $1.5 million contribution toward building the GHY aquatics facility, we are able to serve a greater number of people as we had access to funds that allowed us to build the Main Pool.

This partnership includes a PenMet Voucher program where quarterly passes to access the GH YMCA facility are available to residents within the PenMet Parks District as well as access for non-members to rent party rooms at the same cost as our members.

SilverSneakers®
SilverSneakers® is a program for eligible seniors who receive a subsidized membership as part of their health insurance benefit.

YMCA Healthy Lifestyles
A 10-month long behavior change program for those wanting to make a change in their life.  This program was originally Stanford Healthy Lifestyles, but Stanford gave the rights to the YMCA in 2009.  Currently, there are only a few Y’s in the nation that are being authorized to offer the program (ours is one) after facilitators are trained and complete follow-up work.  The class is a fee based program for members and non-members.
