The YMCA Triathlon Training Group seeks to provide an inclusive community for anyone wishing to compete in multi-sport. We welcome all levels of fitness, ability and experience and hope to foster a love for the sport of triathlon and a commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Our goal is to instill a desire for personal excellence and the attainment of character by providing an atmosphere of camaraderie, encouragement and support.
The Triathlon Training Program is based at the Tacoma Center YMCA. We train together on Tuesday evening 5:30 - 7:30 PM and Thursday morning 5:30 - 7:30 AM. Training sessions vary each week and throughout the year and communication is maintained with weekly emails via an email list serve. The program is year-round and is designed for all ability levels. During the fall and winter, workouts are held indoors, utilizing the swimming pool, indoor cycling bikes, strength training equipment, and performing running drills and plyometrics on the UPS track. When spring and summer arrive, participants head outdoors to train with activities such as open water swims, track workouts, bike rides, and trail runs at Point Defiance Park. Our Training Program also includes workshops and clinics where professionals from our community will speak on topics such as creating a triathlon training plan, nutrition and fueling, injury prevention, mental endurance and strength training. In October, participants recover from the racing season by playing ultimate frisbee, volleyball, bowling, water polo, yoga and pilates. For more information contact Emily Tollefson at (253) 597-6444.
