Fitness Classes

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties offers fitness classes for all levels and abilities. From the traditional step class to the new fitness craze, Zumba, the YMCA has something for everyone. Try one of our beginning classes or our new family fitness series to get you and your whole family moving.

Aerobic Dance
Choreographed, low-impact, aerobic dance class. Available at: Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Morgan

Balance Class
This class emphasizes light cardio fitness, balance, flexibility, strength and fall prevention. Available at: Lakewood

Beginning Cycling
Self paced class to introduce you to cycling. Available at: Tacoma Center

Beginning Kickboxing
This class will teach you kickboxing basics. Available at: Tacoma Center

Beginning Pilates
Learn the basics of pilates. Available at: Lakewood, Tacoma Center

Beginning Step
This class will introduce you to step. Available at: Lakewood, Tacoma Center, Gig Harbor

Beginning Yoga
Learn basic yoga poses approprirate for yoru ability. Available at: Tacoma Center

Body Bar
Total upper and lower body muscle toning class using a weighted body bar. Available at: Gig Harbor, Morgan

Body Bar Introduction
Gives an introduction to total upper and lower body conditioning with a weighted body bar including a focus on abdominal strengthening. Avaialble at: Morgan

Circuit Training/Boot Camp
Circuit training including agility, strength, cardiovascular and endurance segments. Available at: Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Morgan, Mel Korum, Tacoma Center

Core Training
Core exercises designed to strengthen and tone abdominal and lower back. Avaiable at: Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Mel Korum, Morgan, Tacoma Center

Core Yoga
A combination of core conditioning and yoga emphasized through movements and postures that develop strength, flexibility and balance. Available at: Mel Korum

Cycling
Not a lot of choreography, just a lot of fun during this great non-impact workout. A water bottle is required. Please arrive at least five minutes early. Available at: Lakewood, Mel Korum, Morgan, Gig Harbor

Family Circuit
Bring your family to this 45 minute circuit training class. Available at: Mel Korum, Gig Harbor

Family Zumba
A low impact, latin dance based workout that is fun for the whole family: Available at: Morgan, Tacoma Center

Family Yoga
A class for the whole family, includes traditional yoga poses focusing on strength, balance, and flexibility. Available at: Tacoma Center

Gentle Yoga
Designed for those who prefer a slower, gentler and more meditative approach to their practice. Available at: Lakewood, Mel Korum, Tacoma Center, Gig Harbor

Hi/Lo Aerobics
Combination of free-style, high and low aerobic exercises including jumping. Available at: Gig Harbor, Morgan

Hip Hop
A fun cardio class set to music with easy to follow hip hop dance steps. Available at: Morgan, Tacoma Center, Gig Harbor

Interval Training
This class utilizes the step, bands, weights, balls and the track for a great cardio and muscular endurance workout! Available at: Mel Korum, Tacoma Center

Kickboxing
High intensity class using martial arts moves to enhance cardiovascular fitness and tone upper and lower body. Available at: Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Mel Korum, Morgan, Tacoma Center

Low Impact Aerobics
Muscle and cardio endurance with minimal joint stress. Available at: Gig Harbor, Morgan, Tacoma Center

Nia
Barefoot movements incorporating spirit, mind and body. Available at: Morgan,
Tacoma Center

Pilates
Conditioning class combining breathing with stretching and strengthening exercises using the resistance of your own body weight. Available at: Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Mel Korum, Morgan, Tacoma Center

Rhythmic Stretch
A relaxing one-hour class that stretches all the major muscles of the body, slowly moving from one stretch to another to improve flexibility. Available at: Morgan

Spoga
This class combines Spin (cycling) and Yoga for a great cardio workout followed by a great way to strengthen and stretch. First 30 minutes will be cycling, second 30 minutes is Yoga. Available at: Mel Korum

Steppin Strength
Step and weights all wrapped up in a fun low impact aerobic workout. Available at: Morgan

Step Aerobics
Choreographed, high intensity cardiovascular class using adjustable steps for all fitness levels. Available at: Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Mel Korum, Morgan, Tacoma Center

Strength for Life
Incorporates exercise, education and fun to improve mobility, posture, flexibility, balance, endurance and confidence. Available at: Gig Harbor

Tai Chi
A series of movements of postures that derive from a martial arts origin, this form generates and mobilizes Chi, or internal energy, as you perform the fluid movements it is said to reduce stress and improve health. Available at:Gig Harbor, Morgan, Tacoma Center

Toning
Strength and endurance exercises using hand weights, body bars, Pilates balls and resistance bands for abdominal, upper and lower body conditioning. Available at: Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Morgan, Tacoma Center

Weight Circuit (Precore and Cybex)
Circuit training with segments of high, low impact aerobics, conditioning and weight training. Available at: Lakewood, Mel Korum, Morgan

Yoga
Exhilarating mind body class combining stretching and strengthening movements in a quiet, calm environment. Available at: Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Mel Korum, Morgan, Tacoma Center

Yoga with Weights
Light hand weights or rubber tubing is added in selected yoga postures to help improve upper body strength, making this a unique alternative to traditional Yoga. Available at: Mel Korum

Zumba
Latin dance based cardio workout. Available at: Gig Harbor, Mel Korum, Morgan,Tacoma Center
