Looking for a summer dance option? Lakewood YMCA Dance Department is offering a Summer Dance Intensive program for intermediate and advanced level dancers.
Available July 16-20 (Jazz and Modern) and August 20-24 (Hip Hop and Lyrical)
12-4pm
$40 for YMCA Members, $45 for Community Members

Basic Classes
Your membership to the YMCA includes the following dance classes, and registration takes place through the lottery system. Each member is only able to register for a total of two Basic Dance sessions, and then must move up into Performance Classes. By participating in two Basic, or lottery, classes and then progressing up to Performance allows more members to participate in our programming.

Hip Hop Basics
Introduction to the learning of rhythm, beats, isolations, pops of body, fast movements to upbeat music.
Tap Basics
Youth will learn basic terminology and begin work with technique, rhythm, and combinations. This styles is fun for children of all ages, making fun beats and noise with their feet through the class.
Ballet Basics
Youth will learn preparatory technique exercises while focusing on creativity and exploration of movement. Older students engage in placement, technique and dance quality through barre, center, and diagonal work.
PROGRESSIONs Dance Program
(Youth, Teen, and Adult)
The Progressions Dance Program has a low tuition fee in addition to your YMCA membership. Enrollment follows the regular YMCA registration schedule but requires separate registration.
Dance Class Fees:
Fees are per 5 week session and are calculated based on the number of classes taken per week. One class a week for five weeks is only $17.

Ballet

Hip Hop
Rhythm and personal style meet in this fun and energetic dance class.
Jazz
Dancers learn new skills or build upon existing ones through technique, rhythm and dance combinations in dynamic movement influenced by the rhythms of jazz music.
Lyrical
Dancers engage in an emotional dance expressing the lyrics of a song through the structure and discipline of ballet and the dynamics and attitude of jazz.
Pointe
Dancers engage in preparatory exercises designed to strengthen feet, enhance technique and placement, and progress to turns and center work.
Tap
Dancers learn basic terminology and begin work with technique, rhythm and combinations.
Modern Dance
Dancers learn key elments of modern dance including release, fall, and suspension of movement. Many of the lines are abstract in nature and not symmetrical. Dancers have freedom of individual expression.
F.L.Y. Dance Company
Our dance company members are chosen on their dance ability, their commitment to the program, and their demonstration of the YMCA values of Caring, Honest, Respect, and Responsibility. They have two performances a year and focus on community performances.
Dancers are in a minimum of three dance classes and practice throughout the school year learning new choreography.
Each dancer will be properly assessed within their first session of dance to determine proper class placement. Promotion from one class to another is done based upon the review and permission of both the instructor and Dance Director/Coordinator, and parent notification.
