Military Outreach
Honoring Those Who Serve
The Lakewood Family YMCA is committed to serving the military community. In an effort to reach out to service members and their families, we are active members of the following community service organizations.
Lakewood Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee
Air Force Association, McChord Chapter

We also host Family Readiness Groups into our facility and also host Salute Sunday, which is from 4-7pm the last Sunday of every month. During this event, all active, reserve and retired military and their dependents are welcome to use the facility free of charge. Military ID is required, and we require a completed Guest Waiver for each attendee. Click here to print the Guest Waiver and bring it in with you.
In addition, our Executive Director, Mike Johnson, is an Army National Guard veteran with 35 years of service to our country. Many of our staff members are veterans or military family members as well. It is our pledge that the Lakewood Family YMCA will work to identify the ways in which we can meet the military community's need for Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
If you are a member of the military and would like to bring your unit or FRG into our facility, please contact us.

Sponsoring Military Children for Camp
For the summer of 2011, the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties received a grant from the Sierra Club to help fund summer camp for children of military personnel. Some of those funds were allocated to the Lakewood Family YMCA. In cooperation with Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Lakewood YMCA is sponsoring over 100 kids to attend either day camp through the Summer at the Y program at the Lakewood YMCA, or resident camp or family camp at Camp Seymour.
If YOU would like to sponsor a military child to go to day camp, contact Roberta Wilson at 253-460-8908.
