Starting Wage: $9.50+/hr depending on qualifications
Hours: Part time up to 34 hours per week. May include a regular Saturday and/or Sunday; a set schedule within this set of hours will be determined upon hire.
The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking experienced Aquatic Staff for the Haselwood Family YMCA. Aquatic Staff create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. They provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Key Responsibilities
• Maintain good public relations with members, always representing the best interests of the YMCA.
• Know and enforce rules to ensure the health and safety of all participants.
• Perform responsibilities of lifeguard or swim instructor as assigned by Aquatic Directors and LEAD Aquatic Staff.
Safety
• Be constantly aware of all activities in the pool and on the deck.
• Know and enforce rules, as necessary, to ensure the health and safety of all participants.
• Be familiar with all emergency procedures and the functioning of emergency equipment.
• Keep the deck, program center, storage room and equipment clean and uncluttered.
• Administer first aid when required.
• Understand and follow YMCA emergency procedures.
• Insure the safety of our members at all times by using the 10-20 rule of scanning, enforcing rules, and keeping the walkways and exit areas clean and clear.
Swim Instruction
• Instruct swimming lessons in basic and advanced stroke skills according to class swim level as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
• Possess the knowledge and skills needed to instruct classes in the above-mentioned techniques.
• Teach and demonstrate in a positive manner.
• Actively teach your classes in the water, give clear directions and provide adequate demonstrations.
• Insure the safety of swim lesson students at all times.
• Be available before and after class to speak with parents.
• Assist the aquatics program in answering parent questions and concerns, and enforce all safety rules and regulations of the pool.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.

• Maintain a consistent, professional image through dress, actions and relationships with members. Speak enthusiastically on behalf of the Y at given opportunities.
• Participate in applicable training and conferences to further professional growth as outlined in annual training plan.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings as requested.
• Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun.
Minimum Qualifications
• 16 years of age.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and Lifeguard certifications.
• The ability to pass the lifeguard test (physical and oral) at all times.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to respond to critical incidents and to act swiftly in emergency situations.
