Hours:  8:30am-4pm. Part Time, 20 hours per week

The YMCA Center for Community Impact is seeking a Phyiscal Activity Coach to actively lead Physical Activity contact time in schools and provide direct supervision of students grades K-5 during program time.  The Physical Activity Coach provides a quality experience to students focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.  Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun.

Key Responsibilties

Essential Functions:
• Actively engage and instruct students grades K-5 in Physical Activity curriculum. Supervise participants to ensure fair play, appropriate placement and activities that assist students in meeting physical activity requirements.
• Implement Physical Activity curriculum with fidelity to curriculum design.
• Work cooperatively with school principal and/or other designated staff to ensure contract deliverables and shared program objectives are met including:
      1. Providing instructional time to students to allow for  professional development time for teachers and administrators
      2. Meeting state requirement of 100 minutes of physical activity a week
      3. Providing increased access to quality structured physical activity throughout the day
• Conduct pre and post program evaluations and assessments.
• Ensure the health and safety of all students in the program at all times.
• Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Maintain a safe environment through proper staff / pupil ratios, up-to-date equipment and proper use of facilities.
• Follow the guidelines, procedures and policies, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies, in the YMCA Staff and Parent Handbooks, Association Staff Handbook and all district policies. Complete all required forms daily. Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training events.
• Assist in maintaining site in compliance with all YMCA and school district standards. Document all first-aid given and keep on file.  Comply with district policies regarding incident management and reporting.
• Assist staff with discipline of students, as necessary, according to YMCA and school district policies. Ensure early parent notification of process.
• Act as a Positive Role Model and lead by example at all times.
• Staff creativity, high energy and willingness to think and act outside of the box when appropriate are necessary for this position. 

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18 years.
• High school graduate or equivalent and AA or BA in child development.
• Previous experience working with students preferably in a school or camp setting.
• Experience in school-age child development and in one or more of the following areas: Physical Education, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc. BA or AA strongly preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training.
• The physical ability to implement the activity program.
• The ability to demonstrate a friendly, courteous and professional manner while working with members, parents and staff and the ability to understand, articulate and enforce YMCA policies and procedures in a positive way.

   -Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
