The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is enthusiastically anticipating the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year whereby families can relax knowing that with the YMCA Child Care program kids are getting their daily dose of fun, homework assistance, character development, cultural enrichment and fitness, right at their child's elementary school, at a price every family can afford.
The Y is currently looking for positive, enthusiastic role models to serve the kids of the Child Care program beginning in late August/early September (determined by school district start date).
General Function:
Responsible for the administration of a Tacoma off-site before or after school child care site. Major emphasis on staff supervision and development, school/child/parent relations, DEL licensing requirements implementation, and program development and implementation. Year round positions includes Winter, Spring and Day Camp programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain program site in compliance with all YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties and state licensing standards
- Directly supervise children in programs, on a daily basis, according to YMCA, ACA and local licensing requirements
- Create daily, weekly, and monthly schedules for site
- Develop positive relationship with school staff. Communicate with several school principals and staff regarding site schedule changes or changes in school schedules
- Develop positive relationships and strong communication with parents
- Supervise Site Leader. Develop and maintain effective work environment
- Maintain cleanliness and order in facilities, school and community sites
- Create and distribute a monthly newsletter/calendar for parents regarding program activities
- Provide appropriate discipline of children, as necessary, according to YMCA policies and procedures
- Model our YMCA values through fun, positive relationships with staff and members. Seek every opportunity to encourage, motivate and thank fellow staff members for their work
- Be enthusiastic toward members and staff by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities. Strive to enrich their YMCA experience by introducing them to new programs, staff, members and volunteer activities
Minimum Qualifications:
- 21 years of age
- Must have or commit to obtain certifications in First Aid, Community (pediatric and adult) CPR, HIV/Aids training, Food Handlers and TB test
- Two years related experience plus thirty or more college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Elementary Education or possess equivalent educational background in courses relating to childcare
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, staff and the community
- Must be available to work Monday-Friday and attend continuous trainings at specified times throughout the school year.
