The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking talented, experienced, and enthusiastic Health and Well-being Coaches for the Bremerton Family YMCA.  This position will operate under the close supervision of the Health & Well-being Director and in accordance with the mission, policies and goals of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties. The Health and Well-being Coach will help members reach their individual goals and build relationships with new members and guide members to a healthier lifestyle by monitoring their programs through on-going communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep current on trends that meet the needs of adults in the community. Provide instruction in the 12 Week Program and assist in promoting the mission of our YMCA.
• Assist in special events that are open to all members.
• Develop relationships within the community to ensure available programming space and facilities.
• Provide leadership and instruction to Adult members and other assigned youth and adult programs.
• Be available and visible to members, learning names and offering suggestions to workouts.
• Introduces members to members.
• Reach Health Seekers: A person who has passion for serving people, someone who naturally builds relationships and connect with our members who struggle to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
• Listen First Technique: Must be a great listener. Willingness to strategically listen and obtain relevant information to create an individualized experience for every member.
• Ongoing follow-up with members in the 12 Week Program
• Continually promote and ensure a safe environment for members, volunteers and staff.
• Provide interviews to new and prospective members as directed.
• Provide a clean and well-maintained wellness center.

• Model the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility through fun, positive relationships with members and staff.  Seek every opportunity to encourage, motivate and thank fellow staff members for their work.
• Be enthusiastic toward members by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities. Strive to enrich their Y experience by introducing them to new programs, staff, members and volunteer activities.
• Understand the Y's mission, goals, objectives and programs to better relay this information to members for Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.

Professional Image and Development

• Maintain a consistent, professional image through dress, actions and relationships with members. Speak enthusiastically on behalf of the Y at given opportunities.
• Participate in applicable training and conferences to further professional growth as outlined in annual training plan.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings as requested.
• Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for connecting with and providing assistance to members.
  • CPR / AED / First Aid / O2 certifications or the ability to obtain them withing the first three months of employment.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities to relate to those with a variety of fitness backgrounds and medical histories.
  • YMCA Group Exercise Instructor and Fitness Specialist certifications are preferred.
