Sports Mix

This class is designed to allow partcipants to try a variety of traditional sports and playground style games. Class includes warm ups, introduction to sport specific skills and drills. Game scenarios and scrimmages are used and each class concludes with a discussion based on one of the four YMCA core values.

Youth activities

Acting And Improvistation Age 7-18 Years

Have you ever wanted to be a famous actor?  In this drop-in program, youth will be able to explore the essentials of acting and improvisation through skits and acting games.  This program will take students through more advanced acting skills to prepare them for plays at school or in the community.

Guitar Lessons Age 7-18 Years

Bring your guitars and jam out with our resident guitar expert.  Participants in the drop-in program will have a chance to see songs played, ask guitar-related questions, and learn basic chords.  Participants in the program will learn chords, picking, and theory in order to teach them how to play specific songs.  Acoustic instruments only please.

Hip-Hop/Breakdancing Age 7-18 Years

You want to be prepared the next time you hit the dance floor? The drop-in class will be a fun way for beginners or more advanced people to get in and dance alongside a dancing coach.  The program will teach participants a routine.

Drop-in Games Age 5-9 Years

This drop-in program features a basic variety of group games.  Children will experience soccer, floor hockey, tag, obstacle course, relay races, and many more games.  Parents will need to sign their child in with the instructor upon arrival.

Youth orientations and guidelines

Youth Orientations (10-14 Years)

This staff lead orientation is required for youth ages 10-14 who want to exercise independently.  This orientation teaches our younger members how to safely use the cardio equipment and introduces resistance and/or strength training.  Activities are age appropriate.  We encourage our families to be active together.  A parent or guardian must be present during the orientation.  Sign up at the Welcome Center or online.

Youth Guidelines and Policies

Children under 8 years must be directly supervised by a parent or guardian or registered in a staff supervised program while in the building.  Unsupervised youth, ages 8-14 may not be in teh building longer than two hours.  Youth may not loiter in exercise rooms, hallways, or meeting rooms.  Parents will be contacted if youth are participating in inappropriate behavior or are disrespectful to staff or facility rules.

Swim Lessons

Polliwog

This is a beginner class for older swimmers. Participants develop skills in water adjustment, floating, kicking, rhythmic breathing and basic arm strokes.

Guppy

This class is for swimmers able to swim crawl stroke with basic breath control. Focus is on deep-water adjustment and refining crawl strokes. Treading water and beginning dives are introduced.

Minnow

This class is for intermediate swimmers able to swim 25 yards of front crawl and backstroke. Focus is on stroke refinement and endurance. Breaststroke and more advanced dives are introduced. Participants should be comfortable treading water for a short time (at least 30 sec).

Fish

This class refines elementary backstroke and breaststroke. Drills are used to increase endurance. Butterfly and sidestroke are introduced. Children must be able to comfortably swim 50 yards, and tread water for at least one minute.

Flying Fish

At this level students should be proficient in all strokes except for butterfly and be able to swim 150 yards continuous. Participants will work on refining all strokes while increasing their endurance. Competitive swimming practices will be introduced.

Shark

Children build endurance and learn competitive swimming techniques.
