Endowment
You have the power to ensure that YMCA programs are accessible to everyone in our community for generations to come.
What is a Planned Gift? Generally speaking, a “planned gift” is a means through which a charitable gift is committed to a charity through a donor’s estate plan that comes to fruition after the lifetime of the donor. Usually one of the following methods is used:
- Provision in one’s will or revocable trust.
- Life insurance plan beneficiary designation.
- Retirement plan beneficiary designation.
- Life estate gift (remainder interest in real property).
Some gift planning vehicles, called life income gifts, provide income during one’s lifetime, tax benefits, and pass onto the charity after the donor’s lifetime. Examples of these gift vehicles include:
- Pooled Income Fund.
- Charitable Gift Annuity.
- Charitable Remainder Trust.
- Charitable Lead Trust.
YMCA Heritage Club recognizes individuals and families who have designated a gift through their estate to benefit the YMCA Endowment Fund on behalf of the association and/or one of its branches and/or programs.
Charitable Estate Planning
The Y offers an active charitable estate planning program which provides donors with information and assistance in achieving their charitable giving goals in the most efficient manner. Charitable estate planning is the matching of the donor's goals and desires with the Y's opportunities and priorities by using various planning techniques. A charitable estate plan may include outright gifts, testamentary (through the donor's will), or life income arrangements which provide a lifetime income for the donor or designated beneficiary.
However, what sets the Y’s charitable estate planning program apart is the fact that beginning the confidential charitable estate planning process does not bind anyone to include the Y in their estate plan. In fact, the sole purpose of the charitable estate plan is to create the best plan for the donor, regardless of whether the plan includes the Y or any other charity.
