Special Needs Youth-Learn to Swim

Volunteers are always needed to work with school age children every Friday morning during the school year. You do not have to be a swimmer to participate. Help is also badly needed in the dressing rooms, especially men’s, and with equipment set-up. For many children, the program is their only freedom of movement that promotes self-confidence which helps kids succeedat not only swimming, but life. At the end of each school year our YMCA volunteers conclude the program by taking swimmers to Special Olympics.

Teen Late Nite at the Y

The program takes place every Friday from 8:30-11pm for youth ages 13 through 19 and includes basketball, walleyball, game room activities, swimming and food. Volunteers serve as mentors by interacting one-on-one with youth in on-going activities.

Splash and Jam For All Ages

It’s a great time for everyone from age 6 and up. The program takes place every third Saturday from 6-9pm and includes swimming, fun relay races, gym games, food and a craft. Adult volunteers are needed to help plan activities, interact with participants and to serve as quality role models.

Activity Center

Our YMCA offers an activity center for ages 6 to adult. Volunteers are needed to help youth with homework and to help organize games, arts and crafts, and sports activities.

Youth Sports

Volunteer coaches are needed for YMCA sports, primarily basketball and baseball/ tee-ball. Volunteers are trained to emphasize skill development, teamwork and fun, not just winning. High school volunteers are also being recruited to assist coaching Jr. High teams, train to become officials and help with league organization.

Swimming Lessons Instructor/Assistant

Assist aquatic staff with swim lessons for participants ages six through adult.

YMCA Child Care Volunteers

Volunteers work with youth in various activities such as sports, arts and crafts, free play, homework assistance, office support, specialty classes and more. Opportunities are available at numerous school sites in Kitsap County.
